This session continues the long tradition of scholarly inquiry into bluegrass, examining both music and performance traditions.  Three presentations from renowned authors will address a North Carolina traditional song, “Asheville Junction, Swannanoa Tunnel: The Peculiar Journey of a Bluegrass Standard in Western North Carolina,”  technique and musical style, “Triple Shuffle: Bluegrass Swing, Tradition, and Genre,” and regional growth and history, “Industrial Strength Bluegrass: How a Musical Form Came of Age in Southwestern Ohio, 1947-1989.” Discussion will follow.
